The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
