The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
