The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is an option. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, now holds roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach any other side on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the touchline, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be during downpours through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern over the club, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Diogo Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, and its impact on Liverpool. The forward died tragically in a car crash with his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
