Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
